How are The Concrete sheds products made?
Each piece within our collection is hand made from our shed in country NSW in the Hilltops township. We pour your products using GFRC (glass fibre reinforced concrete) this type of concrete is stronger and more flexible than ordinary concrete meaning that you get a product that is both tougher and lighter.
We offer a range of concrete basins, benchtops and homewares. Each piece is made to order which means its hand crafted with you in mind. Being a small business, authentic customer service is important to us, and we encourage you to come check us out at The Shed (in person or virtually) or stay a while on our site looking at our pieces.
How do I care for my product once I get it home?
Concrete is so easy to clean and maintain. We recommend giving your concrete a regular wipe down using a soft damp cloth to wipe down surfaces. Avoid exposing your benchtops to high PH level products e.g. bleach, oven cleaner. Use a chopping board when preparing your meals and don’t place hot saucepans directly on your concrete.
Does concrete stain and mark easily?
Before leaving the shed your products receive three coats of sealer, this hardens and seals the surface, increases the durability and prevents stains. Our sealer is the ultimate protective layer for your piece, its matte in look and feel a must have for your concrete to maintain its beautiful appearance. In saying this, concrete is not bullet proof and will develop a patina over time, similar to natural stone. Minor marks, stains, and surface wear are part of the normal aging process and do not affect the structural integrity of the product.
What can I expect my product to look like?
Colour & Texture Variation
Each piece of concrete we produce is handcrafted using Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC). Because concrete is a natural material and the casting process is done by hand, there will always be some variation in:
Colour: Concrete can cure lighter or darker depending on environmental conditions like temperature and humidity during the pour. Even pieces from the same batch may have slight colour differences.
Texture: You may see mottling, veining, or slight surface inconsistencies. These are part of concrete’s natural character and not considered flaws.
These variations give concrete its distinctive, one-of-a-kind appeal—similar to natural stone.
Air Pockets & Grouting
During the casting process, small air bubbles can get trapped in the mould. Once the concrete is cured, we fill many of these air pockets with a colour-matched grout. However:
The grout may not be a perfect colour match to the concrete—it’s close, but not exact.
Filled holes may appear slightly smoother or a different shade than the surrounding surface.
These filled areas are normal and part of the handmade concrete look.
What are your lead times?
All of our products are hand made to order ensuring they are made especially for you. We aim for our basins to be with you within 3-4 weeks and, our homewares within 1-2 weeks. On average a custom concrete countertop can take up to six weeks to complete. With any custom projects its a good idea is to contact us at the start of your project to allow you plenty of time to finalise colour and texture. All our products are poured onsite in The Shed so once they are completed, they are ready for install and that is usually completed within a day.
How do I keep my concrete in tip top condition?
We recommend only using eco certified products (good for the environment and for concrete) and recommend cleaning spills (particularly acidic products AKA red wine, lemon juice) as soon as possible using a microfibre cloth. Get those coasters out to vamp up your hot drinks and don’t place hot saucepans directly on the bench. Whilst concrete is extremely tough remember that they can’t always handle everything particularly heavy weight, resist the urge to dance on the table, keep little people from walking on your new benchtop (kids anyone???) and watch those corners. Your concrete is important to us and we want to make sure it stays perfect for decades to come.
Can I change my order?
All products are made to order so no cancellations or changes to the order is possible. Check in with us prior to ordering if you have any questions. Carefully review our warranty and returns policy before ordering.
